In this podcast you’ll find:

  • What makes an experience genuinely fulfilling is a state of consciousness called ‘flow’.
  • Written by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, he uses 4 or 5 different criteria in which doing the activity gives you energy as opposed to taking energy away. In flow, the activity feels like we’re powered with a self-energizing battery.
  • In order to discover what your flow is, ask yourself what is it that you love to do so much the only reason you stop is when you’re exhausted?
  • Some people know how to access their flow instantly.
  • There are different things that can put people in flow. Flow feels very kinesthetic.
  • Each personality type has a predictable flow state.
  • Knowing your flow state means knowing which mental process your brain favors above others.
  • ENPs are difficult to get into flow. The exploration process has you seeing relationships that other people don’t.
  • Some people only experience flow when they know they don’t have distractions.
  • Knowing when and how you get into flow can explain a lot about your behavior and patterns.

Exercise we recommend in this podcast:

  • Sit down and make a list of 3-5 things where you are in a flow state. This can figure out some of your best ideas. How do you get into those activities? How do you get there? What is something I love doing so much, the only reason I stop is when I’m exhausted? Look for the patterns and think how you can deliberately incorporate that into your life.

Things we reference in this podcast:

In this episode, Joel and Antonia discuss #flow according to Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's book on the subject.

There are lots of ways to lose one’s flow. In fact, in my experience, it is hard for the average person to maintain flow. If you had a tribe of like-minded people in the north, and have been struggling to find the same in the south, then it could definitely feel like you have lost your flow. What is your personality type Shelley?

Is it possible that one could loss their flow based on environment? 2008 we moved from the north to the south; to this day I still experience homesickness and like I don’t fit in. I do love my job thank goodness my company is all states. I seem to find my flow when it comes to visiting family or when it comes to my dogs. I know crazy right?

Thanks for the feedback! Shoot me an email about payment arrangements for any of our programs and we’ll see what we can work out. antonia@personalityhacker.com

I use music to help me get into flow, as well as regular exercise. It’s really a matter of manipulating myself and my emotions, which I’m not as good at as a Thinker. I also make sure I give myself regular chill out time after a flow state so I don’t train my nervous system to avoiding a flow state and the inevitable exhaustion that happens afterward.

Hi guys! I love your podcasts! They really are changing my life. I’m a student so I’m saving up to take one of your courses. (I was wondering if you might have student a discount for the profiler training?) Anyway I really enjoyed this podcast. I too am and ENFP and I relate to it being hard to transition into flow. I was wondering what ways you both as explorers get into flow? I think I get I to a state of flow when I do DIY crafts. Also like Antonia, I’m a cheap drunk. I wonder if that has to do with how our brains work as enps. Thank you and Joel for these amazing podcasts. You are such a cute couple.
