Fridays @ Five: Five Things We Loved this Week

Every Friday, we send out an exclusive list of five unique or interesting things we’ve found (or explored) around the web during the week.

It may include books, gadgets, albums, articles, new hacks/tricks, and — of course — all sorts of weird stuff we dig up around the web. It’s often focused on Intuitive things and personal growth. Please feel free to spread the word with friends who would also enjoy.

Here’s some great stuff to check out over the coming weekend…

IST-IS2176RM-00000028-0011. SALEM HICUPPING GIRLS

It is truly incredible how much our social environments can affect us. Take, for example, cases of mass psychogenic conversion disorder. Group conversion disorder is essentially an emergent of group stress in which a number of individuals exhibit symptoms of an illness at the same time without an apparent cause. The victims of group conversion disorder are genuinely suffering, but the key to GCD is that it’s psychosomatic. The Salem witch trials are now thought by some researchers to have been a case of a psychogenic conversion disorder- which is not the last time that Salem experienced one of these events. Click here to read about the “Salem Hiccupping girls” and group conversion disorder.

PH-how-to-meditate2. NINE WAYS OF RESTING THE MIND

Our theme for the upcoming week is “mindset and awareness.” I found an article that documents some of the mind-resting practices in Tibetan Buddhism. I’ve recently gotten into the habit of reciting mantras to myself when I get anxious (which is often.) One of my favorites is “suffering is resisting reality.” It has actually been very helpful in reframing my mind and refocusing my thoughts around whatever topic is making me anxious. Click here to read the article.

PHgrass3. WHO IS THE MASTER WHO MAKES THE GRASS GREEN?

Someone posted this in the Profiler Training Facebook group a while ago. It’s a little woo-woo, but when I listened to it for the first time the message was life-altering. The idea that we each make our own realities was a huge perspective shift for me. Robert Anton Wilson had a lot of fantastic lessons to teach- we recommend checking him out if you aren’t already familiar with him. (By the way, you are the master who makes the grass green.) Click here to watch the Youtube video.

PHrickandmorty4. DENVER ALLEN FENTON VERSUS THE STATE OF GEORGIA

I have mentioned my love for Rick and Morty in previous posts. In anticipation for the upcoming season, the creators have released a word-for-word readthrough of an ACTUAL, REAL LIFE, COURT CASE. I cannot stress that enough. It is insanity. Morty plays the (presumably) ISTJ Graves 4 judge, and Rick plays the ExTP Graves 3 convict. It’s not incredibly insightful or anything, but it’s fascinating to hear a Graves level 4 judge get roped into a Graves 3 scenario.

WARNING: VERY NSFW. If you are offended by crude language, don’t watch this. Please.

PHgalaxy5. PIECE OF THE ANDROMEDA GALAXY

The last thing I want to leave you with today is the sharpest image the Hubble telescope has taken of a small portion of the Andromeda galaxy. All of the little lights are stars and suns. Around those stars, like our sun, are possibly other planets. Andromeda is our nearest galaxy out of a potentially infinite number. Space is mind-boggling and incredibly humbling. Click here to look at the Andromeda galaxy.

So there you have it. Of course these picks reflect some of my personal biases and interests – but having hung around the Personality Hacker community for a while now – and being personal growth focused – I’m pretty sure you will find at least one thing from the above list to be interesting.

Also – leave a comment or your thoughts below. Love to hear what you think.
