PHQ | QUESTIONS FROM COMMUNITY: In this episode, Joel and Antonia answer a listener question about FP types and NF types and why they are not often portrayed as the bad guys in movies.

In this podcast you’ll find:

    • Most of the writers and creators in Hollywood are Intuitive Feelers (NF) or Introverted Feelers (Fi). They will write a villain as their exact opposite.
    • They will favor their worldview and view the opposite type as the oppressor.
    • Villains that are FPs are going to be much more nuanced and take longer to develop.
    • Perfume – Dark Character ISFP – beautiful darkness – highly nuanced – writer likely exploring own inner darkness
    • Villains that are black and white are usually Thinker Judgers (TJ). Either ETJ or ITJ.
    • Typically the self-expression and individuality of Fi buts heads with somebody who is trying to create an organization of evil that objectifies people.
    • Hunger Games – all TJs who were trying to organize the world were the bad guys.
    • More darkly nuanced villains, NFs, are more likely to show up in a series because there is more time to develop the character.
    • The standard box office film has less time to develop character, so TJs are the easy go-to for villains.
    • Most chilling villains end up being TPs.
    • Marlo in The Wire is very chilling. Probably an INTP.
    • Harry Potter Dolores Umbridge probably an ESFJ. She was the oppressor of Harry Potter, who was probably an introverted feeler (Fi).
    • The characters that are not commonly thought to be bad guys are sometimes the most chilling.
    • Reluctant heroes fall in Fi spectrum.
    • Rare to find chilling characters that are using Fi.
    • Most likely, you will find the villains as the standard oppressor to Fi, which is usually Extraverted Thinkers.
    • Cersei in Game of Thrones might be ISFP. Dedication to children combined with egocentric belief that she is outthinking everyone when she really isn’t.

also, I suspect Nolan is an INXJ, and he wrote Batman as a very INXJ character. I think it makes sense Batmans weakness would be some unfettered by plans or external rules and just following their emotion as events unfold.

The Joker: You have all these rules and you think they’ll save you!

    Batman: I have one rule.

The Joker: Oh, then that’s the rule you’ll have to break to know the truth.

    Batman: [getting impatient] Which is?

The Joker: The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules.

The Joker: And tonight you’re gonna break your one rule.
    Batman: I’m considering it.
The Joker: Oh, there’s only minutes left, so you’re gonna have to play my little game if you wanna save one of them.
    Batman: Them?
The Joker: You know for awhile there, I thought you really were Dent. The way you threw yourself after her.

I think Kylo Ren from Star Wars Episode VII is an FP villain. I suspect INFP personally. Just as you guys said, he is not black and white like the usual TJ villain.

I suspect the version of “The Joker” in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight is a completley unhinged IXFP villian. Some quotes:

“Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. I’m an agent of chaos. Oh, and you know the thing about chaos? It’s fair!”

“Do you want to know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can’t savor all the… little emotions. In… you see, in their last moments, people show you who they really are. So in a way, I know your friends better than you ever did. Would you like to know which of them were cowards?”

" To them, you’re just a freak, like me! They need you right now, but when they don’t, they’ll cast you out, like a leper! You see, their morals, their code, it’s a bad joke. Dropped at the first sign of trouble. They’re only as good as the world allows them to be. I’ll show you. When the chips are down, these… these civilized people, they’ll eat each other. See, I’m not a monster. I’m just ahead of the curve."

I find his viewpoint of Fe systems as shallow and fake rememiscient of undeveloped FP users. That is why his plan to blow up the ships doesn’t work, he assumes the Fe fabric holding people together will quickly rip and people will give in to their own individual feelings of fear.

He’s constantly trying to uncover how fake people are, trying to expose their true feeling and manipulating them through these emotions (which he does pretty well in the beginning).
