I think Ne is the map. And Se is the actual terrain.

But I think Ne + Ti is a traditional cartographical map.

Whereas Ne + Fi is a moral compass.

    A good mariner needs both.

Here’s a suggestion for a map-making method, creating by combining advice from a few past Personality Hacker episodes:

    - Think of some big questions to ask. These could include: What do I want to achieve (Te)? How do I want to interact with others (Fe)? What do I want to experience and pay attention to (Se)? What new ideas and possibilities do I want to explore (Ne)?

    - As recommended by Antonia in the previous episode, spend some time in silent solitude reflecting on these questions. With enough time and space, it may be possible to draw on all of our introverted functions to help find initial answers: What does my intuitive insight tell me (Ni)? What does past experience tell me (Si)? What fits with my personal values and emotional needs (Fi)? What makes logical sense to me (Ti)?

    - Develop a longer-term plan: how do I want to act, react and interact in the world?

    - For everyday decisions, practice the technique discussed in Episode 166 (https://www.personalityhacker.com/podcast-episode-0166-becoming-a-laughing-freeman/): before acting or reacting, try to spend a few moments using your preferred introverted function to assess the situation without judging yourself or others. Antonia and Joel discuss this mostly in the context of choosing our emotional reactions during challenging situations, but I think it can be applied to other decisions as we try to establish new habits or make progress. The longer times of reflection may build a foundation for these brief moments of introspection.

    - As noted in this episode, we should test our map for a while and then re-evaluate it, by asking questions again and spending time in reflection again. Hopefully this cycle can become a beneficial spiral!

    - In Episode 166, Joel and Antonia mention that this work can take a lot of energy. The discussion in Episode 207 (https://www.personalityhacker.com/podcast-episode-0207-power-of-self-care/) has advice for determining what sort of rest and renewal will best meet our individual needs.
